Kaja Avbersek

Kaja Avberšek (1983, Slovenj Gradec) is an illustrator, a designer and a comic artist. She graduated in 2006 at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design (Department for Design) in Ljubljana, Slovenia. For her thesis she received a Student Prešeren Prize. Between 2005 and 2008 she upgraded her studies and created in the field of animated forms theatre in Lisbon. She has been a memeber of the editors* board of the international magazine for alternative authors* comics Stripburger. She is the author of two books: Singing Castle, Manual of constructing original musical instruments as comics! (2010) and Playground, Mini manual of constructing original musical instruments as comics! (2011); Stripburger / Forum Ljubljana. She created set designs for the puppet performances The Lost Tone (2010); Ljubljana Puppet Theatre and Forum Ljubljana, The Singing Castle (2011); Forum Ljubljana in Zavod Federacija and Forest of Song (2012); theatre GLEJ, Ljubljana and Childrens* theatre Dubrava, Zagreb. She is the set designer of a series of interactive exhibitions of original musical instruments Euphony (in cooperation with the composer and director Peter Kus). Her comics and illustrations are regularly exibited at solo and group exhibitions and published in anthologies, magazines and newspapers in Slovenia and abroad. In 2009 she was awarded Brumen Prize at the 4th Biennial of Visual Communications of Slovenia for the book cover of the comics anthology Slovenian Classics as Comics! (ed. Tomaž Lavri?, Mladina and Stripburger / Forum Ljubljana, 2009).
