Om konstnären

Peter Land is a Danish performance artist, filmmaker, photographer, and painter. He is known for video installations that depict the artist in absurd situations portraying himself or a character drawn from diverse cultural sources ranging from Charlotte Brönte’s Wuthering Heights to Monty Python. His tragicomic compositions often investigate the sense of powerlessness and confusion one feels attempting to fit into society’s pre-determined roles.

Land’s work frequently deals with dark themes, such as suicide, abandonment, and failure, with a wicked sense of humor. His Men in Bed series (2009) depicts stuffed dolls with long, Gumby-like limbs in repose on wire-framed beds, and The Road Home (2011) is a series of pastoral watercolor landscapes consisting of an infinite number of pathways leading to nowhere.

Land’s work has been featured in numerous exhibitions in Europe, North America, Asia, and Australia, including solo shows at Galleri Nicolai Wallner, Copenhagen, Denmark; the New Museum, New York, NY; and the Mori Art Museum, Tokyo, Japan. Land represented Denmark at the Venice Biennale in 2005.
